ANZAC Commemoration
Mango Hill Remembers!
On a brilliant evening on 20th April, 41 Locals and visitors
stopped to remember, respect and value the sacrifice and
service of many 1000’s of Australian and New Zealand Defence
Force personnel over the past 100 years.
In his introduction to the Service, our Master of Ceremonies,
Trevor Ruthenberg recalled the “army” of support personnel (inc.
drivers, health workers and civilian workers) across the nation
who also endured sacrifices to support those on the Front Line.
Our service was privileged to have the young Cadets of 103 ACU
stand a Catafalque Party around the Village Commemoration
Stone. As well, it was a delight to have Maj Darryl Petfield,
Commanding Officer of HQ10 (AAC) Battalion attend and who
stated, “I was very proud of the Cadets from 103 ACU, Their
Professionalism, respect and training was outstanding for these
young adults.”
The audience was entertained by Louise Winton (Simpson, you
are a Hero) and Dave Norman (The Silent Anzac) who performed
their own musical compositions as tributes to all who served in
past and current theatres of war.
Lt Colonel Brijinder Sandhu (Ret) of the Indian Army spoke on
the contribution of all who served at Gallipoli, including many
thousands of Indian Soldiers who tragically fell in that campaign.
(As seen in the April edition of Best Of Local, Brijinder and his
family live in Mango Hill and are today, proud Aussie Citizens.)
